Out of State Rehab in Arizona
Arizona is sunny almost every day of the year. The pines around Prescott are a safe place to do this work, and where the adventure therapy happens. Men come here from all fifty states, and admissions helps you arrange the travel.
- Collected from Phoenix Sky Harbor, and from further out if that is what it takes
- Picked up directly from a detox facility if you need one first
- Family therapy over video, and a written update home every week
- Aftercare arranged in your own city before you leave

Why men travel
Destination Rehab, and Why the Distance Helps
Leaving is not an inconvenience of coming here. For a lot of men it is the part that works.
The people, the places and the phone numbers that go with the drinking are all several states away
Nobody in the building knows the version of you that everyone at home knows
Going back is a decision you make later rather than one you can make at 9pm on a bad Tuesday
Most men here traveled, so arriving from somewhere else is ordinary rather than a story you have to tell
Getting here
How Out of State Rehab Actually Works
Four steps, and admissions agrees the timing with you before anything is booked.
- 01
You fly into Phoenix
Sky Harbor is the usual one, and more than one airport works. Admissions agrees the timing with you before anything is booked.
- 02
Someone collects you
From the airport, and further afield if that is what it takes. Men get collected from the Mesa area and from detox facilities in the valley.
- 03
The drive north
Phoenix up to Prescott, which is where treatment happens. It is the last bit of the journey and you are not doing it alone.
- 04
Going home later
Aftercare gets arranged back where you live, so the end of the program is a handover rather than a drop.
Where you are going
Northern Arizona, a Sunny Place to Recover
Two hours north of Phoenix, a mile high and in the pines. The outdoors is in the schedule here rather than offered as a reward at the end of it.

Lake days
Adventure therapy runs most weeks, on open water and on the trails around it.

Equine therapy
A real herd on open ground, as part of the week rather than as a novelty.

The grounds
Somewhere quiet enough to think, which is harder to find at home than men expect.
What to Expect in Rehab When You Land
- A full psychiatric evaluation, a biopsychosocial, a physical and bloodwork in the first days
- A primary therapist assigned to you, seen twice a week individually
- You keep your phone, including overnight. It goes away in group and individual therapy
- Men in the house are mostly mid-twenties through fifties, and most of them also arrived from somewhere else
What to bring
Admissions emails a packing list once a date is agreed, and it is deliberately ordinary: clothes for a few weeks, toiletries, anything prescribed, something to write with.
Use theirs rather than a general list off the internet. What is allowed differs between programs, and arriving with the wrong thing is an avoidable first day.

Out of State Rehab: Common Questions
Flights, what to bring, the first week, and what happens when you go home.

- Do you pay for the flight?
- No, and it is better to know that now than on the call. You arrange the flight and we collect you once you land. Admissions will help you work out the timing, which airport makes sense and what needs to happen before you book, so the trip is planned rather than improvised.
- What to bring to rehab?

Use their list rather than a general one off the internet, because what is allowed differs between programs and arriving with the wrong thing is an avoidable first day.
- What should I expect in the first week?
- Assessment, mostly. A psychiatric evaluation, a biopsychosocial, a physical and bloodwork happen early, and a primary therapist is assigned to you. The schedule is full on purpose. Most men describe the first few days as the hardest and the first week as the point where it starts making sense.
- Is it strange being the one from out of state?
- It would be stranger to be the one who is not. Most men here traveled, several from the other side of the country, so nobody has to explain why they are not local. It also means the brotherhood you build is not one you have to leave behind entirely, because the alumni network is spread across the country too.
- What happens when I go home?
- Aftercare gets set up where you live rather than left to you. That means outpatient, meetings and whatever else is appropriate in your own city, arranged before you leave. The aftercare page covers what that involves.
- I need to detox first. Can I still come?
- Yes, and it happens often. We are not a detox facility, so admissions will help you find one, speak to them on your behalf, and collect you from there once you are medically cleared. Men get picked up directly from detox facilities in the Phoenix valley and driven up. More on the detox page.
- Does my insurance work in Arizona?
- Often yes, and it depends entirely on the plan rather than on the state line. Much of our care is delivered out of network, which frequently still carries substantial benefits. A verification is the only thing that answers it properly, and it takes one call.
- Can my family still be involved from far away?
- Yes. There is a written update from his case manager every week, and family therapy sessions happen over video when you live out of state. The families page covers what family contact looks like and the one limit on it.

I was hesitant on coming to this facility, but I'm very glad I did. It definitely enforces the guidelines for building a structured life while having some freedom to still feel like a person. The camaraderie and brothers you make here helped with my recovery exponentially. The staff and therapists at Holdfast take your issues and needs to heart and assist to the best of their abilities.
Alec ReddingVerified Google reviewHoldfast was instrumental in getting my loved one on the road to recovery. Very thankful for the faith based approach while also applying expertise in the field of addiction and recovery. A wonderful ratio of providers to patients for one on one therapy and support. My loved one left after completing a 90 day program with a plan, community and a sponsor. A new lease on life! Our biggest thanks to Holdfast and prayers for the success of your future clients.
Dana KaupieVerified Google reviewHoldFast is a place where God restored me from the inside out. It’s more than a recovery program, it’s a Christ-centered brotherhood that helped me rebuild my life on solid ground. Through prayer, Scripture, and real accountability, I learned how to cling to God in every season and rediscovered my identity in Christ building a life of sobriety. I leave HoldFast renewed, anchored, and grateful for the grace and strength I found here, taking it one day at a time.
Scott ThibodauxVerified Google reviewCombination of Neuro Faith' Therapist, Christian based teachings. Listening and sharing each clients experiences and thoughts about we were being taught in group meetings. Also encouraged to go to AA meetings, Church and Bible Study. I haven't sobriety for 96 Days straight since i was 15. Daily prayer and meditation combined with the Hold Fast App daily reflection schedule allowed me to stay focused on my goals of God and sobriety. I knew no one in Prescott when I moved here, now I have a brotherhood and Fellowship of Men that 100% i can count on. I am currently on Step 11 and plan on Sponsoring others as well as continuing in volunteering for others needs and bringing others to sobriety. I have a beautiful new life now that. Hold Fast brought me back ty rean honest self. Thank you Staff. I am now closer with my family.
Lui RodriguezVerified Google reviewHoldFast Recovery is "hands down" the best treatment center I have ever been to. Between the staff and brotherhood, there is genuinely something special about this place. If you're trying to find renewed faith and become the best version of yourself, you've come to the right spot. Be prepared to put in the work!
Cryss Cross CurryVerified Google reviewUnlike no other. Holdfast has been a life saving Christian based spirit filled residential treatment center based on the 12 steps. Instead of dreading the classes and meetings I look forward to all of it. The brotherhood of men here is very strong and I’m healing Godspeed.
