For a lot of men the drinking and the flatness underneath it arrived together, and treating one without the other is why the last attempt did not hold.
Treated alongside the substance use, by the same team, from the first week
Psychiatric evaluation and medication management on site
Men who have been told to "get sober first and see how you feel" are the normal case here
A substance use program licensed for dual diagnosis, not a mental health facility
If withdrawal needs managing somewhere medical first, admissions arranges it. What does not wait is the depression: it is assessed in the first days rather than after ninety. how we handle detox.
Inside the program
Treatment at Holdfast
The same clinical spine as every level of care, pointed at this in particular.
One treatment plan covering the depression and the substance use together
A psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner for medication, on site
Two individual sessions a week with a therapist who holds the whole picture
Physical work, daylight and structure, which are not a substitute for treatment and are not nothing either
The Root Underneath It
Depression in men often does not look like sadness. It looks like anger, or numbness, or working eighteen hours so there is nothing left to feel with. That is part of why it goes unnamed for years and why the drinking gets treated as the whole problem.
No. This is a substance use program that is licensed to treat the depression that comes with it. If there is no substance use in the picture, admissions will tell you on the call and point you toward something built for that, rather than put you through an assessment for a program that does not fit.
Will I have to stop my antidepressant?
No. Medication is reviewed by a prescriber here and continued, adjusted or changed on clinical grounds. Nobody is asked to come off something that is working in order to be admitted.
What if the depression only started after I got sober?
That is common and it is expected. Early sobriety can be flat for months while the brain recalibrates, which is a different problem from a depressive disorder and is treated differently. The assessment is interested in which one you are describing.

Other Conditions Treated
Most men arrive with more than one of these, which is the normal case rather than a complication.
I was hesitant on coming to this facility, but I'm very glad I did. It definitely enforces the guidelines for building a structured life while having some freedom to still feel like a person. The camaraderie and brothers you make here helped with my recovery exponentially. The staff and therapists at Holdfast take your issues and needs to heart and assist to the best of their abilities.

Holdfast was instrumental in getting my loved one on the road to recovery. Very thankful for the faith based approach while also applying expertise in the field of addiction and recovery. A wonderful ratio of providers to patients for one on one therapy and support. My loved one left after completing a 90 day program with a plan, community and a sponsor. A new lease on life! Our biggest thanks to Holdfast and prayers for the success of your future clients.

HoldFast is a place where God restored me from the inside out. It’s more than a recovery program, it’s a Christ-centered brotherhood that helped me rebuild my life on solid ground. Through prayer, Scripture, and real accountability, I learned how to cling to God in every season and rediscovered my identity in Christ building a life of sobriety. I leave HoldFast renewed, anchored, and grateful for the grace and strength I found here, taking it one day at a time.
As Iron Sharpens Iron, So One Man Sharpens Another.
Proverbs 27:17
Men walk in here out of options and walk out with a brotherhood, a purpose and something that holds. It starts with one call, and you can make it right now.
