A Christian 12 Step Program, Inside Treatment
The steps are not an evening activity here. They run through the program, a sponsor is required rather than suggested, and the step you are on is something your therapist knows about.
- A sponsor is expected, and you are expected to use him
- Step work sits alongside EMDR and trauma therapy, not after it
- AA and NA meetings in the week, and meetings found for you at home
- The higher power is named as God

Inside the program
How the Steps Run Here
Four things that are different about working the steps inside treatment rather than alone after it.
A sponsor is required
Not encouraged, not suggested. You are expected to find one and use him, and if you are not calling him that becomes a conversation.
Your therapist knows the step you are on
Step work and clinical treatment are not run by different people in different buildings. What comes up in a fourth step tends to be what comes up in therapy.
Meetings in the week, and after
AA and NA meetings are in the schedule while you are here, and finding meetings where you live is part of what aftercare sorts out before you leave.
The higher power is named
The higher power is named as God. Men who are not there yet are still welcome, and nobody is asked to pretend.
Getting an AA Sponsor, and Actually Using Him
- A man further along who takes you through the steps in order and in writing
- Someone who calls you on what you are avoiding, which is the whole point of him
- Found while you are here rather than left as homework for after you leave
- If you are not calling him, that becomes a conversation with your therapist
Start with the guide
Most people meet the steps long before they meet a treatment program. If that is where you are, these are a good place to start.

The 12 Steps: Common Questions
Whether AA is Christian, what a sponsor is for, and what to do if you have worked them before.

- Is AA Christian?
- No. Alcoholics Anonymous is deliberately not tied to any religion, and its steps refer to a higher power "as we understood Him" precisely so that anyone can work them. That openness is a strength and it is also why some men find the steps hard to get hold of. Here the higher power is named as God, which is a choice this program makes rather than something AA teaches. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by AA or NA.
- What makes this a Christian 12 step program?
- The steps run inside a Christian program rather than beside a secular one. Scripture is used alongside step work, the higher power is named, and the identity question the steps raise gets answered rather than left open. The clinical side of that is NeuroFaith™, and what the faith side looks like day to day is on the Christian rehab page.
- Do I need an AA sponsor?
- Yes, and finding one is part of the work here rather than something to sort out after you leave. A sponsor is a man further along who takes you through the steps, calls you on what you are avoiding, and picks up the phone. Men who leave treatment without one relapse more, which is why it is a requirement here and not a suggestion.
- How do I actually work the steps?
- With a sponsor, in order, in writing, and slower than you want to. Nobody works them well from a web page, which is what the sponsor is for. If you want the full explanation of what each step asks, our guide to the 12 steps of AA and NA in simple terms is the most-read thing we have published.
- Do you run Celebrate Recovery?
- No. Celebrate Recovery is its own program with its own curriculum, and we do not run it or anything licensed under it. Some of the men here attend it, and nothing about this program stops you. What runs inside treatment is the twelve steps as described above, with a sponsor.
- What if I have done the steps before and they did not work?
- That is most men here. Usually what was missing was the thing underneath: trauma that no amount of step work reaches on its own. Running the steps alongside EMDR and trauma-focused therapy is the difference this program is built on, and it is why care here runs about ninety days rather than twenty-eight.
- Are AA and NA the same thing?
- The steps are near-identical; the rooms are different, and which one fits often depends on what you used and who you feel understood by. Our comparison of AA and NA goes through it properly.

I was hesitant on coming to this facility, but I'm very glad I did. It definitely enforces the guidelines for building a structured life while having some freedom to still feel like a person. The camaraderie and brothers you make here helped with my recovery exponentially. The staff and therapists at Holdfast take your issues and needs to heart and assist to the best of their abilities.
Alec ReddingVerified Google reviewHoldfast was instrumental in getting my loved one on the road to recovery. Very thankful for the faith based approach while also applying expertise in the field of addiction and recovery. A wonderful ratio of providers to patients for one on one therapy and support. My loved one left after completing a 90 day program with a plan, community and a sponsor. A new lease on life! Our biggest thanks to Holdfast and prayers for the success of your future clients.
Dana KaupieVerified Google reviewHoldFast is a place where God restored me from the inside out. It’s more than a recovery program, it’s a Christ-centered brotherhood that helped me rebuild my life on solid ground. Through prayer, Scripture, and real accountability, I learned how to cling to God in every season and rediscovered my identity in Christ building a life of sobriety. I leave HoldFast renewed, anchored, and grateful for the grace and strength I found here, taking it one day at a time.
Scott ThibodauxVerified Google reviewCombination of Neuro Faith' Therapist, Christian based teachings. Listening and sharing each clients experiences and thoughts about we were being taught in group meetings. Also encouraged to go to AA meetings, Church and Bible Study. I haven't sobriety for 96 Days straight since i was 15. Daily prayer and meditation combined with the Hold Fast App daily reflection schedule allowed me to stay focused on my goals of God and sobriety. I knew no one in Prescott when I moved here, now I have a brotherhood and Fellowship of Men that 100% i can count on. I am currently on Step 11 and plan on Sponsoring others as well as continuing in volunteering for others needs and bringing others to sobriety. I have a beautiful new life now that. Hold Fast brought me back ty rean honest self. Thank you Staff. I am now closer with my family.

Cryss Cross CurryVerified Google reviewUnlike no other. Holdfast has been a life saving Christian based spirit filled residential treatment center based on the 12 steps.
