- Are you in network with UnitedHealthcare?
- Often not, and it matters less than it sounds. Much of our care is delivered out of network, which frequently still covers a substantial share. We say "we work with UnitedHealthcare" rather than "in network" because the second would not be true across the board, and a verification is the only thing that answers it for your specific policy.
- How much will UnitedHealthcare pay?
- We will not guess at that, and anybody who does is guessing. What a plan pays depends on the plan, the level of care and how long you stay, so a figure on a web page would be wrong for most people reading it. A benefits check gives you the real answer for your policy, and it takes one call. More on what out of network actually means.
- What do you need from me to check?
- A name, a date of birth and the plan details. That is usually it. You can run it for somebody else with information most wives and mothers already hold, and no claim is filed and no employer is notified by asking.
- My card says UMR. Is that the same thing?
- UMR is a UnitedHealthcare company that administers plans for employers, so it is the same family and the check is the same check. Mention it on the call because it changes which route admissions takes to verify.
