A short conversation about what you have been using, how much and how recently. Withdrawal from alcohol and from benzodiazepines can be genuinely dangerous, so this part is not guesswork and not done over a form.

Partner facilities for detox in Phoenix, Scottsdale and closer to us. Which one depends on where you are, what you are coming off, and often on which of them is in network with your insurance.

Medically stable and ready to start. Someone drives out and brings you back, and treatment begins the same day rather than after another gap you have to survive on your own.

Detox is the one part of this where getting it wrong is genuinely dangerous, so none of it is worth softening.

- Do you offer medical detox?
- No. Holdfast and AnchorPoint do not have detox beds. What we do is work out whether you need one, place you with a partner facility we trust, and collect you when you are medically clear so treatment starts straight away.
- How do I know if I need detox?
- It depends on what you have been using, how much and how recently. Withdrawal from alcohol and from benzodiazepines in particular can be dangerous without medical supervision. Admissions will go through it with you on the call, and if the answer is that you need one, they will say so even if you would rather hear otherwise.
- How long does detox take?
- It varies by substance and by person, and a clinician at the detox decides. As a rough idea of what admissions hears most often, an alcohol detox is commonly around five days. Yours may be shorter or longer, and nobody here will tell you a number before you have been assessed.
- Where will you send me?
- A partner facility, usually a detox in Phoenix or Scottsdale, sometimes one closer to us. Which one depends on where you are and on which detox is in network with your insurance, because coverage for detox is often narrower than coverage for treatment.
- What happens after detox?
- We come and get you. Most men go straight into residential treatment at AnchorPoint, some into PHP. The gap between finishing a detox and starting treatment is where a lot of people lose it, which is why we close it rather than leaving you to arrange your own ride.
- I am on Suboxone and want off it. Do I need a detox?
- Not necessarily. Coming off Suboxone is a different protocol from an alcohol or opioid detox, and where nothing else is being used it can often be managed inside the program with a local clinic relationship. See getting off methadone for the same situation with a different medication.
- Does insurance cover detox?
- Usually, but the in-network list for detox is often narrower than it is for treatment, which is one of the reasons we send people to the Valley rather than somewhere closer. Admissions runs your benefits before anything is booked.
- I am not ready for treatment. Can you still help?
- Call anyway. Admissions talks to people every week who are not ready and will still tell them the truth about where they are and what a safe next step looks like, even when that step is somewhere other than here.
