First Responder Addiction Treatment in Arizona
Built by a firefighter who came home when nineteen of his crew did not. Trauma and addiction treated by one team, far enough from your own district that you can actually put it down.
- PTSD, critical incident stress and addiction treated together
- EMDR and polyvagal-informed therapy from master’s level clinicians
- Men only, and nothing leaves here without a release you sign
- Out of state is the norm, so you are not in a group room with your own crew

Who this is for
Firefighter Rehab, Police, Paramedics and Dispatch
Different jobs, one pattern: repeat exposure, a culture that rewards saying you are fine, and a drink that started as the only thing that worked.
Firefighters and wildland crews
Including the people who do the season and come home to nothing structured.
Police and sheriff deputies
Where the job rewards saying you are fine and penalizes saying you are not.
Paramedics and EMTs
Repeat exposure without the gap in between that lets anything settle.
Dispatch and corrections
Carrying the calls without ever seeing how they end.
First Responder PTSD and Critical Incident Stress
- EMDR, run by master’s level clinicians, on the specific calls that stayed
- Polyvagal-informed work on a nervous system that has been on since the academy
- Psychiatric care on site, with the bias toward the fewest medications that keep a man well
- Equine and adventure therapy, because talking is not the only way in
Who built this
Nineteen men went up the hill. One came back.
Brendan McDonough was the Granite Mountain Hotshots lookout. What followed was survivor guilt, substance use and a long rebuild, and it is why this program treats trauma first.

First Responder Treatment Program: Common Questions
Confidentiality, your department, and what we will not claim we can do.

- Will my department find out?
- Not from us. Treatment is protected health information and nothing leaves here without a release you sign. What we will not do is tell you we can handle a fitness-for-duty or return-to-work process, because that is a separate legal question and it belongs with your own department and your union rep.
- Is there a first responder group or track?
- There is no separate cohort, and we would rather say that than sell you one. What there is: a founder who is a firefighter, a clinical program built trauma-first because of it, and veterans and first responders in the building most of the time. Men who have carried something operational tend to recognize each other early and stop explaining themselves.
- I cannot do treatment in my own town. Does that work?
- That is most of the reason men come here. Doing IOP in the district you run calls in is not realistic, and the distance is the point rather than the price. Flights land at Phoenix Sky Harbor, someone collects you, and admissions sorts the timing out before anything is booked.
- Can you treat PTSD and drinking at the same time?
- That is what a dual diagnosis license means and it is what the program is built around. EMDR and trauma-focused therapy run alongside the substance use work with one team holding both, rather than being handed to somebody else afterward.
- How long would I be gone?
- Around ninety days if you do the whole continuum: residential, then PHP and IOP with sober living alongside. Many men use paid leave, FMLA or short-term disability, and we provide whatever documentation your employer needs.
- Do I have to be a Christian?
- No. Men arrive doubting, angry at God, or with no faith at all, and nothing gets signed. The program is built on Christian ground and it is nondenominational.
- What about insurance?
- We work with most major commercial plans, and with some TRICARE West policies. Much of our care is out of network, which often still carries real benefits. Verification is what tells you what your own plan pays.

I was hesitant on coming to this facility, but I'm very glad I did. It definitely enforces the guidelines for building a structured life while having some freedom to still feel like a person. The camaraderie and brothers you make here helped with my recovery exponentially. The staff and therapists at Holdfast take your issues and needs to heart and assist to the best of their abilities.
Alec ReddingVerified Google reviewHoldfast was instrumental in getting my loved one on the road to recovery. Very thankful for the faith based approach while also applying expertise in the field of addiction and recovery. A wonderful ratio of providers to patients for one on one therapy and support. My loved one left after completing a 90 day program with a plan, community and a sponsor. A new lease on life! Our biggest thanks to Holdfast and prayers for the success of your future clients.
Dana KaupieVerified Google reviewHoldFast is a place where God restored me from the inside out. It’s more than a recovery program, it’s a Christ-centered brotherhood that helped me rebuild my life on solid ground. Through prayer, Scripture, and real accountability, I learned how to cling to God in every season and rediscovered my identity in Christ building a life of sobriety. I leave HoldFast renewed, anchored, and grateful for the grace and strength I found here, taking it one day at a time.
Scott ThibodauxVerified Google reviewCombination of Neuro Faith' Therapist, Christian based teachings. Listening and sharing each clients experiences and thoughts about we were being taught in group meetings. Also encouraged to go to AA meetings, Church and Bible Study. I haven't sobriety for 96 Days straight since i was 15. Daily prayer and meditation combined with the Hold Fast App daily reflection schedule allowed me to stay focused on my goals of God and sobriety. I knew no one in Prescott when I moved here, now I have a brotherhood and Fellowship of Men that 100% i can count on. I am currently on Step 11 and plan on Sponsoring others as well as continuing in volunteering for others needs and bringing others to sobriety. I have a beautiful new life now that. Hold Fast brought me back ty rean honest self. Thank you Staff. I am now closer with my family.

Cryss Cross CurryVerified Google reviewUnlike no other. Holdfast has been a life saving Christian based spirit filled residential treatment center based on the 12 steps. Instead of dreading the classes and meetings I look forward to all of it. The brotherhood of men here is very strong and I’m healing Godspeed.
