NeuroFaith™: Our Clinical Model for Christian Recovery
The clinical model this program runs on, developed by Dr. Jeffrey E. Hansen, PhD and published as a book. It puts the neuroscience of trauma and the Christian faith on one schedule: what the body still does about the past, and who a man understands himself to be.
- EMDR and polyvagal-informed therapy on what the body still does
- HeartMath®, taught as a skill you keep rather than a session you attend
- Bible study, church and mentorship in the same week as the clinical work
- Master’s level clinicians, and nothing to sign

What the model is
Faith Based Recovery With the Clinical Work Inside It
The four pieces the model puts together, all running on one timetable.
Trauma work on the nervous system
EMDR and polyvagal-informed therapy, aimed at what the body still does about something that has already happened. Brain mapping is used to look at where a man is starting from.
HeartMath® and regulation
Practical work on getting a nervous system out of permanent alert. It is taught as a skill a man keeps rather than a session he attends.
Scripture as the identity question
Bible study, church and spiritual mentorship, running on the same week as the clinical work. The question it answers is who a man is, which therapy alone tends to circle.
A written method
The model is published as a book, so you can read what happens here before you decide anything. Admissions will send you a copy.
Christian Addiction Recovery, Written Down
- NeuroFaith™: The Intersection of Science and Faith in the Healing of Trauma and Addiction
- Written by Dr. Jeffrey Hansen, Tim Hayden and Pastor Earl Heverly
- How trauma moves through the brain, the heart and the body, and what to do about each
- Admissions will send you a copy at no cost, whether or not you come here

How the model is run
How NeuroFaith™ Works Through a Week Here
What admissions describes on the phone, in four lines.
The clinical hours and the faith hours are built as one program, on one schedule
Every clinician is master’s level and trauma-focused, and several are Christians themselves
Church on Sunday and Bible study through the week are in the timetable
Nobody signs a statement of faith, and men who arrive doubting are the normal case

- What is NeuroFaith™?
- It is the clinical model this program runs on, and the name of the book that sets it out: NeuroFaith™: The Intersection of Science and Faith in the Healing of Trauma and Addiction. In practice it means the neuroscience of trauma and the Christian faith are treated as one body of work rather than two departments. Brain mapping, EMDR and polyvagal-informed therapy sit alongside Bible study, church and spiritual mentorship.
- Is this instead of real therapy?
- No, it is the shape the therapy takes. Every clinician here is master’s level and trained in trauma-focused work, there is a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner for medication, and you get a full assessment in the first days. The faith element runs alongside that, not instead of it.
- Do I have to believe any of it?
- No. Men arrive doubting, angry at God or with no faith at all, and nothing gets signed. What is asked is that you turn up to the work. Plenty of men find the identity question is the part that finally answers something the clinical hours could not reach, and plenty do not. Both are fine. More on what the Christian side involves.
- What is HeartMath®?
- A set of practical techniques for settling a nervous system that has been running hot for years. It is taught as something a man keeps using after he leaves rather than as a session he sits through, and it is one of the pieces that made the model worth writing down.
- Can I read the book?
- Yes, and admissions will send you a copy at no cost. Reading it is a reasonable thing to do before deciding anything, and it will tell you more about how this program thinks than a web page can.
- Where does the twelve-step work fit?
- Alongside it, and it is not optional. A sponsor is expected, step work is tracked next to the clinical treatment, and the higher power is named rather than left open. How the steps run here.

I was hesitant on coming to this facility, but I'm very glad I did. It definitely enforces the guidelines for building a structured life while having some freedom to still feel like a person. The camaraderie and brothers you make here helped with my recovery exponentially. The staff and therapists at Holdfast take your issues and needs to heart and assist to the best of their abilities.
Alec ReddingVerified Google reviewHoldfast was instrumental in getting my loved one on the road to recovery. Very thankful for the faith based approach while also applying expertise in the field of addiction and recovery. A wonderful ratio of providers to patients for one on one therapy and support. My loved one left after completing a 90 day program with a plan, community and a sponsor. A new lease on life! Our biggest thanks to Holdfast and prayers for the success of your future clients.
Dana KaupieVerified Google reviewHoldFast is a place where God restored me from the inside out. It’s more than a recovery program, it’s a Christ-centered brotherhood that helped me rebuild my life on solid ground. Through prayer, Scripture, and real accountability, I learned how to cling to God in every season and rediscovered my identity in Christ building a life of sobriety. I leave HoldFast renewed, anchored, and grateful for the grace and strength I found here, taking it one day at a time.
Scott ThibodauxVerified Google reviewCombination of Neuro Faith' Therapist, Christian based teachings. Listening and sharing each clients experiences and thoughts about we were being taught in group meetings. Also encouraged to go to AA meetings, Church and Bible Study. I haven't sobriety for 96 Days straight since i was 15. Daily prayer and meditation combined with the Hold Fast App daily reflection schedule allowed me to stay focused on my goals of God and sobriety. I knew no one in Prescott when I moved here, now I have a brotherhood and Fellowship of Men that 100% i can count on. I am currently on Step 11 and plan on Sponsoring others as well as continuing in volunteering for others needs and bringing others to sobriety. I have a beautiful new life now that. Hold Fast brought me back ty rean honest self. Thank you Staff. I am now closer with my family.
