What outpatient means here
What Is Outpatient Treatment?
Standard outpatient is a maintenance level rather than a starting point. It is what a man moves onto once the structure has already done its work, if he is still close enough to turn up.
It runs as community outpatient: roughly one day a week, plus the facility being somewhere you can come and be around the people. Most men reach it after sixty days or more of PHP and IOP.
What you get at this level
- Continued therapy with the clinician you already have
- Community outpatient groups
- The facility as somewhere to turn up to
- The alumni community alongside it
- A fast route back up a level if you need one

- What is outpatient treatment?
- Outpatient treatment is therapy and group work you attend while living your ordinary life, rather than living at a facility. It sits at the lighter end of a continuum that runs from residential through PHP and IOP. At Holdfast, standard outpatient is roughly one day a week.
- What is the difference between outpatient and inpatient rehab?
- Inpatient means living at the treatment facility with clinical staff on site around the clock. Outpatient means living your own life and attending treatment. The gap between them is wide, which is why PHP and IOP exist in the middle rather than asking men to jump straight from one to the other.
- Can I start with standard outpatient?
- Rarely, and admissions will tell you honestly if it is not enough. Once a week is a maintenance level, not a starting point. Most men begin at residential or PHP and reach this after sixty days or more of structured treatment.
- What if I do not live near Prescott?
- Then standard outpatient here is probably not right for you, and saying so is more useful than selling it. Most men who come here traveled to do it. Case management builds an aftercare plan around where you are going instead, and Arizona residents can often use the virtual program.
- Can I still come to the facility?
- Yes. Men in outpatient turn up to be around the place and the people, beyond their scheduled hours. That is most of the point of staying connected at this level.
- Does insurance cover outpatient treatment?
- Usually, and often more readily than higher levels of care. Admissions runs the verification and comes back with what your plan covers.

Inpatient vs Outpatient Rehab: The Honest Routing
Most of the men who come to Holdfast traveled to get here, which makes a weekly appointment in Prescott the wrong plan for a lot of them. Here is the honest routing.
If you stayed in Arizona
Standard outpatient is the natural last rung, once a week, with the therapist you already know. Some men also use the virtual program alongside it.
Virtual IOPIf you are going home
The connection does not stop at the state line. Case management builds the aftercare plan around the town you are actually returning to, and the alumni community stays open to you for as long as you need it.
Aftercare and alumniIf you need more than once a week
Most men do, at first. Intensive outpatient runs mornings, five days or three, with housing included, and it is where nearly everyone goes before this.
