Dr. Alan Kazan

Medical Director

Alan Kazan, MD is a physician specializing in addiction medicine who has over 30 years of experience treating patients with an alcohol and/or drug use disorder. Dr. Kazan is a native of Chicago who received his medical degree from Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine graduating in 1975. He then completed a three-year residency in internal medicine, followed by full time practice in emergency medicine.

In 1986, Dr. Kazan was included in the first group of physicians, both psychiatrists and other specialties, to sit for an addiction medicine certification through the American Society of Addiction Medicine and was designated as a specialist in this field.

Starting in 1992, he accepted a Medical Director position for a chemical dependency program at a behavioral health facility in the East Valley of Phoenix metropolitan area. From 1992 until 2020, he practiced inpatient addiction medicine at a number of behavioral health facilities in Phoenix for detoxification, residential treatment, partial hospitalization program, and IOPCD’s.

For a number of years, he also had an outpatient office practice for addiction consultations, pain management, and for buprenorphine maintenance. Dr. Kazan has been actively involved in teaching addiction medicine to medical students; more recently to students at University of Arizona-Phoenix School of Medicine. For the last 6-7 years, he has provided an addiction medicine rotation for psychiatric residents from Creighton School of Medicine, formerly MIHS. Dr. Kazan has Board Certifications through the American Board of Preventive Medicine-Addiction Medicine, the American Board of Internal Medicine, and the American Board of Emergency Medicine.
