Michael’s life when he was young was full of trauma. Living through multiple types of abuse, and the absence of any role model he turned to drugs. After years of drug abuse, he met his wife. Together they both continued the lifestyle. In 1999 Michael was found guilty of manufacturing methamphetamine and was incarcerated. Finding Christ while incarcerated. Michael kept his faith after jail. Michael and his wife spent many years working in the recovery industry. Facilitating recovery groups in a Christian-based recovery program. Sponsoring and mentoring addicts and alcoholics.

Michael has two children, both boys. Both of his boys were great students and athletes. Toward the end of their high school years, they both discovered opiates. Starting with prescription pills, then moving to heroin. For many years, Michael and his wife battled for both their sons. Today they each have 10 years plus of clean time. The key was a strong spiritual foundation first.

Later in life, after 10 years of sobriety, Michael started drinking alcohol. Not really considering it an issue. After all, it is just alcohol, not hard drugs. After a few years, alcohol was becoming a problem and a new addiction. Michael checked into Holdfast and became a client. For many years prior, Michael worked only on his substance addiction. Still with a strong faith, this time, he turned to process his past trauma as well. EMDR therapy helped Michael process trauma, and move on from the hurts of his past, and his addictive behaviors.

After completing at Holdfast, he had the desire to work again in the recovery industry. He wanted to use his experience to help other people. In 2022 he was hired at Holdfast Recovery. Now, Michael works to communicate that the love of Jesus is greater that any trauma. That there are no wrongs, that cannot be forgiven, and that every person is worth one more chance.

Using his addict/alcoholic history. Also, having two children who were heroin addicts. The experience of facilitating groups in recovery, and sponsoring men through a step program. This combined with a strong spiritual life, and love for all people, Michael has a great perspective on individuals still struggling with addiction. All this knowledge and experience is used here at Holdfast Recovery.

At Holdfast, Michael addresses the client’s everyday concerns pertaining to life in treatment. Starting with Intake and Orientation. Explaining the Holdfast culture and program guidelines and phases. Assists with outside legal issues including probation and court appearances. Helping clients schedule appointments such as doctors, dentists, schooling, and career advancement. Constantly monitoring the client’s well-being. Last, portions of the discharge process include after-care planning such as 12-step groups, Church, and weekly schedules after treatment.

Michael is grateful for the opportunity to play a role in someone’s life. From addiction to Freedom.

Jeremiah 29: 11
